The oil merchants are keen to reclaim the league title while also chasing continental glory
Kenya Pipeline, the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league leaders, dominated their clash against Kenya Army as third leg league action got underway at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday 25 January.
Coach Geoffrey Omondi has, however, cautioned his charges against carrying such expectations to their clash against Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), slated for Sunday 26 January.
Pipeline went straight into business in the opening set, thrashing the soldiers 25-14. The second set mirrored the first, with Omondi's charges maintaining their momentum to return a similar score before finishing off the job with a 25-18 show in the third set for an easy victory.
"Every win is important and we are happy. Our services were accurate. We got attack combination and block defense right as well and it was an easy victory," Omondi opened up adding that his side had improved on net defense hence today's result.
Against DCI, the tactician admitted that they would present a strong challenge for the oil merchants but, in a quick rejoinder, maintained confidence that his side would destabilize the investigators with good services and block defense.
"They are a good side with strong attackers who must be stopped at the net. We also intend to serve tough and distort their combinations," Omondi explained.
Meanwhile, defending champions KCB who find themselves in unfamiliar territory, in sixth place heading to the third leg of action, got their march for top place going with a straight-sets victory against Prisons Nairobi.
The Japheth Munala-coached side kept the wardresses below 20 points in sets of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-14 to assure themselves maximum points before their acid test against wounded Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The military side is likely to come at KCB with a vengeance after being stunned 3-1 by Post Bank in Saturday's action. The bankers drew first blood en route to the crucial win with two opening sets of 25-22 and 25-21 before KDF responded with a 25-22 win in the third set. However, Post Bank completed the job in the fourth set, winning 25-21 for the victory.
Action continues on Sunday, 26 January, at Nyayo Stadium volleyball court.
