The Eastleigh-based side is chasing a playoff slot at the conclusion of this year's regular league.
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) division one side Mustangs finally danced to their first victory of the season as they subjected Strathmore University to a 65-61 defeat in a match played on Saturday at Nyayo Indoor Arena.
The Edson-Mugisha coached side had a slow start compared to the varsity side trailing 14-10 in the first quarter but recovered to take the second quarter 14-13 to trail three points at half time break.
"After the first three loses of the season it was time to make amends. The three-week break occasioned by the general election gave us the chance to regroup and train for our next opponent.
Facing Strathmore was no easy task as they are a strong side and we had to come prepared for a very physical game. We gave it our all and weee able to deliver the much-awaited first win," offered Mustangs' skipper Aaron Oyier in an interview with Mozzart Sport.
The second half saw Mustangs mount a comeback, catching up with Strathmore at 41 points and leading 45-41 at the end of the period.

The third quarter brilliance made all the difference for the Eastleigh-based Mustangs, as both sides scored 20 in the last period for the final score.
It was, however, not as straightforward since the varsity side took the lead in the final quarter and were ahead by half a basket until the last minute of the match where Mustangs capitalised on the opponent's mistakes scoring four free throws that sunk Strathmore's ship.
"This is a very crucial win for us. It gives us confidence that we can win matches if we stick to our game plan. We will try to build on this in coming matches with our target being the playoffs. We have a young squad and are keeping our targets realistic," added the captain.
Kalay Ali and Brian Omondi top scored for Mustangs at 22 and 19 while Washington Mwangi led the scoring to the varsity side at 16 while Jason Chukwuemeka contributed 10.
