Varsity derby as Zetech host Strathmore in KBF women's league

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women's league losing semifinalists Zetech Sparks face off with Strathmore Swords at Nyayo Indoor Arena on Saturday 11 June. 

Coach Maurice Obilo's charges, Sparks, open their season on the back of good performance in several off-season tournaments and a stellar show in the last season where they gave the bug wigs a rub for their money. 

KPA bolster title-winning squad ahead of 2022 season

On their part, Ronnie Owino-led Swords will look to bounce back from a below-par performance in the last season where they qualified for the playoffs by a whisker, losing to eventual winners Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in the quarters.

The side only played the home match in Nairobi and opted for a walkover in the scheduled game two away in Mombasa. 

In another match, Africa Nazarene University (ANU) face newly promoted Eldonets Women who are out to bag a first victory in the top-tier league. 

In Mombasa, Antony Ujukwu's KPA are set to host Eagle Wings who opened their season last weekend with a slim victory against newbies Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in a 44-40 outcome. 

In the men's league, former champions Ulinzi Warriors for a second victory of the season, having bagged a win against Zetech Titans last weekend, when they take on last season's losing quarter finalists Eldonets. 

This will be coach Bernard Mufutu's second match at the helm of the side that is looking to reclaim the title they lost to Sammy Kiki's KPA in a 3-2 outcome in the best-of-five final. 

On Sunday, women's league holders KPA are set to play semi finalists Storms in Mombasa. In Nairobi, JKUAT chase a first victory against Eldonets Women in a repeat of the KBF division one playoff final last season. 

Strathmore Blades, who last weekend picked two victories against Umoja and Nairobi City Thunder chase a third victory against Eldonets. 

In a repeat of the division one men's final, Zetech Titans take on ANU Wolfpacks. Titans got the better of their counterparts in last season's playoff final.
