The KVF men's league playoffs are set for August 27 to 29.
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's regular league came to a close on Sunday, 25 July at the Nyayo National Stadium, with no surprises as to who heads to the playoffs set for Mombasa next month.
It will be a repeat of the 2019 playoffs as holders General Service Unit (GSU) battle hosts Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) former champions Prisons Kenya and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for the league honours.
On the final day of action, KPA played GSU in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the league, the paramilitary side coming from a set down to win the match 3-1( 25-15, 26-28, 20-25, 13-25) to finish the regular league unbeaten.
Throughout the fourth leg played from Friday through to Sunday, GSU tactician Gideon Tarus has maintained that he was using the matches as part of his preparation for his title defence.
"It did not matter what position we finish in during the regular season as long as we book the ticket to the playoffs. The real work is at the playoffs as we look to defend the title," Tarus said ahead of the KPA match.
Meawhile, KDF who left it late to book their spot in the top four picked wins against Nairobi Prisons and Administration Police (AP) Kenya on the final day to cement their place.
"I admit we were under pressure in the final leg. Knowing we were up against Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Equity Bank for the slot heading to the final leg was unsettling. I am glad that we are in but the real work just begun," said KDF coach Elisha Aliwa.
"After watching the weekend matches, especially the tie between GSU and KPA, the playoffs will not be easy and we need to put our act together if we are to challenge for the title," Aliwa added.
On top of the league title, the top four teams will also be fighting for tickets to the African Clubs Championship.
