The Europeans upset Steve Kerr-led team 113-111 to arrange the Sunday showdown with Serbia

The United States men's basketball team has been eliminated from the 2023 FIBA World Cup after losing a semifinal to Germany 113-111 in Manila on Friday.

The Americans led 60-59 at halftime, but Germany outscored them 35-24 in the third quarter. The US, down by ten midway through the fourth quarter, nearly pulled off a comeback, getting within one point on two separate occasions in the final minutes. But the Americans never got the lead, and it was the Germans - led by today unplayable NBA star Denis Schroder - jumping and hugging as time expired.

The Americans will face Canada in the bronze-medal game on Sunday, while Germany, which is 7-0 in the tournament so far, meets Serbia in the finals.

Steve Kerr's side's first loss at the tournament was an inconsequential defeat against Lithuania after they had already advanced to the knockout round. They then demolished Italy in the quarterfinals before losing to Germany in the semis.
