Umoja, Lakeside chase first win

After faltering in their season-opening encounters on Saturday, 6 March, Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men's league sides Umoja and Kisumu Lakeside are on a redemption mission when they play their second matches of the league on Sunday, 7 March. 

Lakeside take on Embakasi Youth Basketball Association (EMYBA) in a noon clash while Umoja host Thunder at 2pm. Both matches will be played at Nyayo Indoor Arena. 

Against EMYBA, the Kiambu-based side is meeting a side that, just like them, prides itself in being a highly defensive and physical team. The Embakasi side are chasing a second win of the weekend after seeing off students Terror 62-44 in a Saturday match. 

"EMYBA are an experienced side and their conversion rate on the paint is good. We therefore have to change our approach from the Thunder match where we focused on stopping their shooting outside the arc, and make sure we box out and rebounds well," said Lakeside team manager George Onassis. 

Meanwhile, new-look Thunder are hoping to get it right again when they take on Alan Ouma's Umoja. In their win against Lakeside, coach Sadat Gaya admitted that they have a lot to work on but will push for a win today before they can go back to the drawing board and work on team chemistry. 

Charles Goro's Kenya College of Accountancy-University (KCA-U) tale on Strathmore Blades as the former look to recover from a 65-41 loss to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) two weeks ago. It will, however be Blades' first match of the season. 

In the women's league, Strathmore Swords open their season against promoted Kisumu Lady Bucks.
