The elected officials will serve for three months.
Uasin Gishu county, the Home of Champions, is likely to rule the world of sports if the agenda of the newly formed Sports Council is anything to go by.
The Council has been tasked with various responsibilities, including ensuring the growth of different sectors of the sport in the county as well as unlocking the sports talents for other disciplines.
Uasin Gishu was home to Rivatex and Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) football clubs that played in the Kenya Premier League. The Sports Council is looking to reclaim the lost glory and introduce more disciplines.
The move has been welcomed by County sports executive Eng. Lucy Ng’endo who believes it is the right direction in ensuring talented people earn from it. She also called on accountability, integrity, and execution of sports governance from the council.
“Let us be disciplined as leaders. Let us be good managers because how we carry and undertake our duties will affect how well people pick our marketing of a particular discipline,” Ng’endo urged.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Uasin Gishu branch Paul Tororei was voted as chairperson after flooring Athletics Kenya’s Joseph Chemureni.
Rosemary Saina, Benjamin Omondi, Elizabeth Sareto and Joseph Ochieng were elected as committee members.
“This body is the one that is going to bring all the federations and associations together to ensure that we work as a team for the purpose of improving sports in Uasin Gishu County,” Tororei said.
The voters were drawn from all the sports disciplines. The elected officials will serve for three months.
