Gideon Baragu and Paul Kakai were unstoppable for Technical University of Kenya (TUK) as the varsity side managed a convincing 36-19 victory against University of Eldoret (UoE) Pippers.
Fresh from a two-week break as they last featured on 6 November, TUK took full advantage of that, against a Pippers side that had lost back-to-back on Saturday against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Thika.
The score at half time was 18-07 in favour of TUK with fatigue clearly evident for the otherwise fast-paced Eldoret side.
Baragu scored nine with Kakai adding eight to TUK's tally as keeper Walter Luova denied Pippers numerous chances from the post. Despite Kevin Kibet managing to top score in the match with ten goals, it was not enough to hand his side a much-needed victory.
This is a back-to-back win for TUK who had a below par start to the league. In their last match, the Ibsen Nabela-coached side managed a win against visiting Boomarang.
In another men's league match, former champions Black Mamba picked a comfortable win against Kimilili-based Rangers in a 37-22 outcome.
Morgan Juma and Paul Ondara led the scoring for the Abdallah Otieno-coached men who are readying for the East and Central club championship slated for Zanzibar early next month.
Meanwhile, newbies Daystar Falcons were no match for the star-studded Nairobi Water Queens who have made winning both the league and Super Cup title a norm.
The Jack Ochieng-led Queens ran riots against the varsity side, winning their match 53-05.
"We are on the right course. Currently we are using these matches as part of our build-up for our title defense in the East and Central Africa Club championship.
We have increased our training sessions to five a week as we have a few areas that we need to work on.
We are still slow on our attacks and that is what we came our to test in this match. The target was score in every minute, that is hit atleast 30 goals in a half. We fell short and that is what we work on going forward," offered Ochieng.
