The Morans have no chance whatsoever of qualifying for the FIBA World Cup on merit following Friday's forfeiture

After days of uncertainty, moments of it's happening, then not, Kenya Morans finally managed to travel to Cairo for the FIBA Africa World Cup qualifiers, although a day late.

The Morans will be up against Group D leaders Egypt today night in a dead-rubber match for Kenya in terms of World Cup qualification while the opponent will be out to finish top of the group.

After failing to make it to Egypt on time for the match against the Democratic Republic of Congo that was slated for Friday, the Morans lost the match by forfeiture, eliminating any mathematical chance they had of making the cut.

The team traveled without Tyler Ongwae who had been in the initial squad that was to travel on Thursday night and was making a return to the team despite having announced his retirement earlier on.

Kenya remains winless in the qualifiers while their Saturday opponent have lost only one match and are the favorites going into the game.

Kenya Morans had earlier been declared unable to travel due to unavailability of seat space, a communication that prompted the world governing body to take it upon themselves to find those spaces for the players and technical bench.

Five African teams will earn a spot in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 set for August 25 to September 10, 2023, in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
