Okoth went down 3-2 by split votes
Kenya’s Hit Squad captain Nick Okoth has been bundled out of the Olympics after losing to Mongolian Tsendbaater Erdenbat in a featherweight round of 32 bout played at the Kokugikan Arena.
Many had high hopes in Okoth famously known as Commander heading into the fight but the fight did not go his way and he exited in the preliminary round just like was the case during his first appearance at the Olympics in Beijing, 2008.
The 38-year old went down 2-3 by a split decision to the Mongolian in what was largely an evenly contested fight. The Mongolian won two sets 3-2 by a split decision. He won the first and third rounds while Okoth won the second round equally by a 3-2 split decision.

The Kenya Defence Officer (KDF) officer was hoping to add an Olympic medal to the gold medal he got at the 2015 Africa Championship and the bronzes that he won at the 2020 Commonwealth Games in India, and the 2015 African Games.
After his exit from the competition, Kenya’s hopes of winning a medal in the boxing category in Japan now lie on the shoulders of the three remaining boxers - Elly Ajowi who got a bye to the Round of 16 in the men’s heavyweight category, Christine Ongare who will be in action tomorrow in the women’s flyweight category, and Elizabeth Akinyi who equally got a bye in the welterweight category.
