The women's league has three varsity sides in action.
Zetech Titans' head coach Job Munene is hoping to guide his charges back to winning ways after their defeat away in Mombasa to league holders KPA.
The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) varsity side made a return to the top tier league this season and as the tactician hopes to have the team not only remain in the top tier but also qualify for the playoffs, he says this weekend's matches are important to post good results.
Munene's charges play Nairobi City Thunder on Saturday from 4pm at Nyayo Stadium before facing Terror on Sunday at the same venue and time.
"Against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa, we had 22 turnovers and missed easy shots which is an area we need to correct in this weekend’s matches.
The youngsters in the team were impressive in Mombasa but the more expressed players played below expectations. Our defense is good and has to remain that way as Thunder have good shooters we need to stop if we are to win," offered Munene.
Sadat Gaya's Thunder will not be easy to beat as they have proven to be a hard nut to crack for many teams despite being on a rebuilding path.
In addition to facing Thunder, Munene's charges have to settle scores with University of Nairobi (UoN) Terror on Sunday in a varsity Derby that has all the ingredients of a thriller.
"We really need this win against Terror. I am using my players to step up and deliver. On the weekend, I was impressed with Rodney Sande's performance against KPA and if he can be on the same form this weekend and have the others give their best, we will be playing for two wins," added Munene.
Meanwhile, Kenyatta University sides Oryx women and Pirates are away in Kisumu where they play Lady Bucks and Kisumu Lakeside respectively.
Head coach Caleb Osewe says both sides are ready for the challenge ahead having reported back to school well in time to prepare for these matches.
"We have trained well since we reported back to school for the new semester. Even though we will miss some players who moved to other teams while others grudated, I believe the new signings will give us a positive result.
The women's match will be a trick one as mh players are not yet where I would want them to be but I remain confident they can deliver," offered Osewe
