A crazy NBA story from way back
It's been clear for a long time that the NBA is more of an entertainment, a business, a profit-making machine by any means necessary. That's how we've been watching halftime competitions, challenges, games, and rewards at matches for decades. Such events are quickly forgotten, even when someone hits a crazy shot or wins money, a television or a car, but one event is not forgotten even after 30 years... All because of Michael Jordan.
The plot of this story is set in Chicago - year 1993. This already tells you that it is the Chicago Bulls in the period when Michael Jordan was at the peak of his fame.
In the match against Miami, a shooting contest was organized after the third quarter. That's when the sponsors, in this case an insurance company, came up with the idea that if someone hits a full-court shot, they get no less than a million dollars!
"The Calhoun Shot" or "the Immaculate Connection" - were nicknames for a shot made by spectator Don Calhoun during a timeout in the third quarter of a Chicago Bulls - Miami Heat game on April 14, 1993.

The shot was part of a promo that offered 1 million dollars to any fan who… pic.twitter.com/z5LqCUEHiD
A fan named Don Calhoun was pulled from the crowd to do the unthinkable. He launched the ball with one hand and it went through the hoop. What followed was an incredible celebration, both from the young man who hit the shot and from the Bulls players who were watching the whole time.
However, the biggest shock was not the made shot, but the sponsors' decision not to award the prize. They refused to pay the money on the pretext that the aforementioned Don Calhoun had once played basketball in college.
As expected, everyone was outraged by the company's move, from the fans, through Calhoun himself, and even to the Chicago players, led by the almighty Michael Jordan.
It is said that he put enormous pressure on the company, and then the other players joined in so that everything would be resolved with an incredible outcome.
For the next 20 years, Don Calhoun received $50,000 a year as a reward for one made basketball shot!
