Kenya Golf Union (KGU) announced an elite four-man squad for this year's championship, headline d by elite amateur golfer Junaid Manji, who is joined by Kamoza Longwe, Raphael Leming'ani, and Mwathi Gicheru under the tutelage of coach Ali Khimji.

Last year, the team captained by John Lejirma, who has since turned professional, won for the fourth time in a row as the championship was held at the Golf du Rova Course in Antananarivo city, Madagascar.

Kenya amassed a cumulative total of 642 from their best three players in the 54-hole action, and Manji, who was part of last year's quartet, is now expected to lead with experience.

Last year, Lejirma (209), led the scoring for Kenya with Elvis Muigua (218) and Michael Karanga (219) completing the list of outstanding Kenyans.

Manji returned 221, the best score from a fourth-place finisher across the four nations that competed.

The Sigona Golf Club player, playing off handicap -1.9, opened the year by winning the first event in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series, playing at home at the NCBA Sigona Bowl.

In February, he was part of the Victoria Cup team that claimed the trophy in Entebbe.

He also captained the Junior team in the recent All Africa Junior Team Championship at Windsor where they finished second, qualifying for the Toyota World Championship next month, in Japan.

Meanwhile, Windsor's Longwe, a recognizable force this year in the KAGC series, makes his debut for Team Kenya internationally, having caught the eye of selectors with a couple top 10 finishes including his maiden victory at the inaugural Ulinzi Open.

Making a return to Team Kenya is Ruiru Sports Club's handicap 2.7 golfer Leming'ani who has been a consistent contender in the KAGC series for about a decade.

The experienced golfer makes a return since the 2025 Victoria Cup event at Mt. Kipipiri Golf Resort. He opened the year on form, winning the Mt. Kenya Championship event at Nyeri Golf Club.

Completing the list of competitors for Kenya is Royal Nairobi's Gicheru who is quickly making a name for himself in the golfing scene through spectacular performances in the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) events.

He will be remembered for his debut at the Victoria Cup in February where Team Kenya won, with him making the winning stroke.

He also made the All Africa Junior Team Championship squad that is preparing for global competition in Japan and was the best performing Kenyan player finishing fifth overall. He has also won the Kabete Junior Open this year.

The Africa Golf Confederation established the Region IV tournament structure to expand the talent pipeline and give rising stars dedicated continental platforms.

The 2026 championship serves as a key stop for young athletes vying to advance their careers and compete at international levels.
