Former Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) T20 champions Swamibapa A kicked off their campaign on a winning note after recording a seven-wicket victory over newly promoted Ngara Sports Club A on the opening day of the 2025 season on Sunday.
Led by skipper Rushabh Patel, Swamibapa needed just 7.4 overs to reach Ngara’s total of 74 all-out from the first innings.
Sachin Gill was the top-runner scorer with 35 off 18 balls, while captain Patel added 22 from 14 balls.
On the bowling unit, Vraj Patel hauled in four wickets.
A win for the immediate former champions was replicated by wins for other Swamibapa outfits - Swamibapa B and Swamibapa Development - as they also recorded seven and two wickets victories in their Division One and Division Two matches respectively.
Elsewhere at Sikh Union Club, Sikh Union also enjoyed a seamless start to the season thanks to a 41-run victory over Stray Lions.
Sikh Union scored 155 runs for the loss of nine wickets, before restricting their opponents to a paltry 114 in 18 overs.
“Fabulous job by the team,” Sikh Union skipper Sukhdeep Singh said after the match. “A great start to the season, I must admit, and we are glad to have our team play as a unit.
“We are glad to have our young team giving their level best and the energy was amazing on the ground. For this season, we will rely a lot on our performers from last season; Shubham Patel, Jasraj Kundi and Satish Hirani.
We have decided to give a few young guys a chance and see how it can help them develop themselves in the coming future.”
Meanwhile, Sir Ali also got their T20 campaign off to a flying start with Simran Mehta, one of their overseas professionals, striking the league’s first century with an unbeaten 104 off only 50 balls with 14 fours and four sixes.
Kenya Kongonis batted well to score a decent 164/6 with returning Alex Obanda scoring a fine 43 off 34 balls.
However, Sir Ali chased the score comfortably with the loss of only two wickets to close out the season-opening win.
At Eastleigh Grounds, hosts Kanbis A put up their search for the coveted T20 title with a six-wicket victory over visiting Ruaraka ‘A’.
The win was courtesy of the exploits of Sachin Bhudia and skipper Dhiren Gondaria, who scored a total of 112 runs off 48 deliveries.
Completing a double victory for the weekend, the Eastleigh-based club had their (Kanbis) B team rack up a seven-wicket win over Ruaraka ‘ B’.
