The Private and International Preparatory Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) on Wednesday 26 July flagged off a team of close to 100 athletes expected to grace the latest edition of the London Cup slated for 27-30 July.

The tournament, one that involves premier youth talents, is expected to take place at the Brunel University Grounds, and involves six different age groups including; Under 7 and 8, Under 9 and 10, Under 11 and 12, Under 13 and 14, Under 15 and 16 and Under 19 categories.

“We appreciate the efforts from our partners - PIPSSA Kenya, Touride Adventures and Genesis Sports for facilitating this journey,” PIPSSA International Relations liaison officer Omar Ali said. “It is definitely going to be a bigger tournament this year given the representation Kenya has. We note the magnitude of such outings which could pave a way for Kenyans in the English Premier League.”

In London, and as a bigger part of the association’s plan to foster sports tourism, the squad, mainly consisting of U16 kids, will tour around several world class facilities including; Emirates Stadium, Stamford Bridge, the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and have a pro training session with Chelsea FC’s Under 16 team.

The 2023 London Tournament will also involve teams from all over the globe, including: USA, Canada, Thailand, Germany, Morocco, India, Uganda, Switzerland, UK and Mexico.

Action begins with the Mini-Tours Football tournament that is set to give the youngsters an experience of the combination of pulse pounding football action at state-of-the-art facilities, while enjoying their stay at accommodation, hotels with a host of amenities and attractions.

The last two days will involve both the boys and girls (U11-U19) engaging in the ‘festival of football.’

On 16 April, Acakoro Academy U13 team clinched first place in the PIPSSA Tournament held at Don Bosco Secondary school in Karen, with the association hosting another U7, U9 and U11 Boys Soccer Tournament at Crawford School on Saturday 6th May 2023.

At the same time, Zetech University will be hosting the PIPSSA Taekwondo Championships on Saturday 29 July, with plans to have a Mini-Sports Tournament in October.
