Okutoyi started out slowly in the encounter and did not score a single point in the first game of the first set but staged a strong display in the second game to win in an identical manner as she had lost the first and get make her way back to contention.

However, Marcinko found her way back to win the first set, breaking Okutoyi in the fourth, sixth, and eighth games.
The Kenyan put up a better showing in the second set, not letting the Croatian out of sight in the first six games but eventually Marcinko claimed the set even though Okutoyi was almost forcing a tie break.
