Before being elected at NOC-K, Mutuku served as an official of the Kenya Lawn Tennis Association (KLTA) in various capacities
National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) Secretary General Francis Mutuku is among the candidates eyeing the top post in elections set for April, next year.
Having served for two terms and ineligible to go for another term, according to the Sports Act, Mutuku has reportedly teamed up with current treasurer Eliud Kariuki in the hunt for the top seat.
In the arrangement, Kariuki, who also served for two terms as treasurer, will be the Deputy President.
According to sources close to the duo, their decision to gang up has been necessitated by a desire to continue with the good work NOC-K has done over the last eight years.
“We have not heard of the normal scandals that used to happen previously. It is a fact that NOCK has changed significantly over the last eight years and they want to continue with the good work,” said our source.
Another candidate also considering the top post is athlete representative Humphrey Kayange, who is putting together a strong team to back his candidature.
Incumbent Paul Tergat is ineligible to contest as he has served his two teams. He will, however, remain a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Meanwhile, Kenya Tables Tennis Association (KTTA) chairman Andrew Mudibo is preparing to contest for the position of Secretary General having failed to be elected in his last bid.
Before being elected at NOC-K, Mutuku served as an official of the Kenya Lawn Tennis Association (KLTA) in various capacities.
Kariuki on the other hand was an official of the Kenya WeightLifting Association (KWA).
NOC-K is made up of 26 federations whose representatives met three weeks ago to agree on the election roadmap.
The federations are supposed to nominate an electoral board by 10 February.
The board will then be approved between March 1 to10. Rules and regulations to govern the electoral process will then be agreed upon by March 10.
The board will then issue a 21-day notice for the elections on 28 March.
Nominations of candidates will take place between April 3 and 10 with the elections scheduled to be held on 25 March.
