NCPA T20 League: Kanbis gunning for the title after flying start

Kanbis A and Sir Ali A are tied on points on top of the T20 table
With five wins out of five in the 2023 Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association T20 league, Kanbis A all-rounder Sachin Bhudia believes that his team has all their eyes on securing the championship at the end of the season.
Kanbis A, riding a three-match unbeaten start to the league that kicked off last month, extended their robust performances over the weekend – winning twice and in style.
On Saturday at the Eastleigh grounds, Kanbis annihilated Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj A, limiting them to 157 runs in a 8 wickets victory.
Batter Jignesh Kerai led the way for Kanbis A with a 39-ball 77 with skipper Dhiren Gondaria adding up a half century (54) to push the team past the run-target in 15.3 overs.
“Kerai has been doing really well since he came into the Super League,” Sachin Bhudia told Mozzart Sport. “His performances have been really consistent and he keeps scoring runs for the team.”
Kerai was once again the star man in Kanbis A’s next weekend game on Sunday, where he scored 56 runs (not out) in a 5-wicket victory over Stray Lions A – a game that saw bowler Narendra Patel pick up three wickets.
“Everyone in the team is doing their part. The bowlers and batters have been really impressive all season especially when chasing targets,” Bhudia said, crediting the team for being the reason behind the quick start.
Hot on their heels in the league table is Sir Ali A – winners of 5 games this season and only trailing Kanbis A on net run-rate with an identical share of points (20).
Sir Ali A had an easy weekend also, seeing out Obuya Academy A in a 6-wickets victory before dismissing fourth placed Sikh Union A at the Sikh Union club grounds on Sunday.
In what looks like a hot battle between the two leaders, Bhudia was quick to dismiss any conversations around a title race with Sir Ali A, maintaining that his team is only focused on winning their games and controlling what’s infront of them.
“We are approaching one game at a time and not focused on our opponents behind us,” Bhudia said. “We want to win the league and that’s our goal.”
In other results on Sunday, Swamibapa A recorded a 15-run victory over Ruaraka A with Obuya Academy A knocking off SCLPS A by 8 wickets.
