National Tennis Junior Championship set to make comeback in the country after near three-year hiatus

The National Tennis Junior Championship is set to make a comeback in the country from 19-23 April 2022 after nearly three years of the event failing to take place.

Since 2019, the competition has not seen the light of day due to the novel coronavirus pandemic that brought a standstill to life as was previously known.

However, with restrictions widely eased in the country and the sports sector particularly, Tennis Kenya is set to get the tournament rolling once again starting from later on this month.

"The National Junior Championship is back. This is a National Ranking Tournament for the following Categories; Boys and Girls 12 & Under - Singles and Doubles - Players Born between 2010 and 2012. Boys and Girls 14 & Under -Singles and Doubles - Players Born Between 2008 and 2011. Boys and Girls 18 & Under - Singles and Doubles - Players Born Between 2004 and 2009,” Tennis Kenya announced.

“The aim is to get all the players from all across the country to get to play together as we see them in action. It is also a national ranking tournament,” Nancy Nduku, secretary at Tennis Kenya said.

According to the country’s governing body, players will be allowed to enter two singles event and one doubles event.

In the tournament that will kick off on Tuesday 19 April, players will have till Friday 15 before the registration window comes to a close.
