Meeting was centered on the role of continuous education and training among coaches in elevating the sport's standards nationwide
The Nairobi County Aquatics Association on Saturday 13 July hosted a transformative coaches forum that brought together a host of swimming coaches from across the country all geared towards creating a platform for learning, collaboration and dialogue.
The County Association Member Association meeting was the latest in a series of gatherings set to improve the standards of swimming in the grassroots, while also providing avenue for coaches to further their training and education.
Kiambu county and the extended Mt. Kenya region held their discussions in May.
Among the key attendees on Saturday was Anthony Muriithi, President of the Kenya Swimming Coaches Association (KSCA) who challenged members and the national federation - Kenya Aquatics - to take proactive measures in empowering local coaches.
"Coaches have to embrace training and education if the standard of swimming in the country is to improve," Muriithi asserted. "It's also imperative that the national federation focuses on availing many coaching courses locally to empower our local coaches.”
The pronouncements came amidst a deliberate effort by the federation to send out its officials to take ASCA Level One and Two Licenses in neighboring Tanzania.
In addition to emphasizing education, Muriithi addressed the financial dynamics crucial for the sport's growth.
He stressed the importance of counties and clubs fulfilling their financial obligations to the national federation.
"Counties and clubs must pay their annual subscription fees to the national federation to enable growth and development of swimming," he emphasized, pointing out that these contributions are vital for sustaining and expanding the sport's infrastructure and programs.
The forum concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment among the coaches. Participants left with a clear understanding that their collective efforts, supported by robust training and financial stability, are essential for the future success of swimming in Kenya.
