Kiambu County Aquatics Association now shifts focus to their next event which will be a coaching clinic to be held at Zetech University on 25th February
Potters House school swimming coach Shadrack Mutiso has insisted on the need for his charges to have as many competitions as possible to sharpen their skills as they gear up for more future competitions.
The school emerged as the overall winners of the Kiambu County Aquatics Association Level Two Championship held at Potterhouse School, Runda where 20 clubs brought 153 swimmers to battle it out for the top County swimming honors.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport from Thika town, Mutiso was optimistic about the future but warned against laxity if Kenya was to produce locally trained swimmers ready for international assignments.
" I think we are slowly getting there even though we are still lagging in terms of infrastructure. We also need to have as many competitions as possible not just to keep these kids busy, but to improve them from competition to competition. Even though there was talent and interest enough, coaches still have a lot of work to do so that local athletes can meet and clock international standards qualifying times, an achievement that will now see local lads representing Kenya on global stages," Mutiso disclosed.
His charges scooped 36 gold medals, 35 silver, and 20 bronze for the overall summit title that included both the men's and women's categories. Supermarlin Swim Club came in second with 24 gold, 19 silver, and 10 bronze medals with Braeburn Swimming Club closing the podium with 18 gold, seven silver, and four bronze medals.
After failing to scoop the overall winner, Supermarlins Swim club came alive and won the men's only category with 11 gold,13 silver, and seven bronze medals as Nova Pioneer came in second with 11 gold, five silver, and three bronze medals. Juja St. Peters School finished third with nine gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals
A dominant Potter house school also saw them win the women's only category when they scooped 30 gold, 31 silver, and 16 bronze medals, Braeburn school were second with
15 gold, two silver, and two bronze medals while Supermarlins Club was third after winning 10 gold, five silvers, and three bronze medals.
