Malkia Strikers are pitted against Cameroon, hosts Netherlands, European champions Italy, Puerto Rico and Belgium im the group stage.

Malkia Strikers assistant captain, Noel Murambi, is confident the team's camp in Belgrade, Serbia ahead of their World Championships in Netherlands will help them polish their game.

The Luizomar de Moura-coached side takes on Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade and the Serbian national team B on Saturday and Sunday respectively at the Kovilovo Resort gymnasium.

Murambi says that playing against the two teams gives them a chance to work on their game plan against European teams that they will face at the World Championships set for 23 September to 15 October.

"We got to Serbia safe after two months in Brazil. We play our first match in Belgrade on Saturday and we expect it to be competitive. We are ready for the championship.

The training we had was very tactical and technical, touching on all the basics that we need to perform well. The Red Star Belgrade friendly it will give us a perspective of how far we have come as a team," offered tge left attacker.

The eleven-time African champions face several European teams in the group stage of the FIVB Women’s World Championships and from experience, having faced these teams in previous competitions, Murambi says this is a great opportunity for practise.

"European players are tall so when we play them, we know to expect long blocks good services and back-court defense so it is important to avoid inside attacks and instead capitalise on touch outs and ensure that we have strong services," Murambi explained.

Malkia Strikers are looking to get at least a second win at the World Championships since their historic triumph against Kazakhstan during the 2018 edition held in Japan.

Coach Moura admits that some of the teams will need clearly better than Malkia but says their focus is on getting wins against the two teams they know they can be better than in Cameroon and Puerto Rico.

Victory in the two matches would see the Kenyan side make history as the first squad to proceed to the second round of the global event.
