The varsity side opened their season last weekend with victory over Moi Airbase.

Kenya College of Accountancy- University (KCA-U) men's basketball side played their second match of the league on Sunday, going down 45-36 to Snipers.

The varsity side, who were relegated from the top tier coming into the 2022 season, which threw off last weekend, are looking at a quick return but this defeat goes against their plans.

However, skipper Victor Murage did not have any positives from their performance against the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) side, arguing that it was a fixture the varsity side should have won easily had they got their act together and not been complacent.

"We missed most of our shots and allowed them to run the scores until the fourth quarter when we rallied to tied the scores. We gave up our chance at victory with two costly turnovers that handed them the lead and from there it was just downhill.

We took them to the free throw line numerous times and that's where we lost the match. I am not impressed with our performance. We should not be struggling against teams in division one given that we have been playing in the premier league," offered a disappointed Murage.

In addition to poor execution, the captain singled out the youthful squad as another undoing, revealing that losing a majority of the experienced players has played a part in the performance. In a quick rejoinder, he called on the youngsters to pull up their socks.

"We have new players who are still learning and playing at this level is still not embedded in them. We have to go back to some serious training and correct the mistakes we had in this match. Our conversion rate is wanting so we have to find ways to finish better," he added.

The Charles Goro-led side will have a rest next weekend before playing their next match, time the skipper opines will be enough to put their house in order.
