KCB Women's Volleyball team is readying up forthe second leg of the volleyball league and coach Japheth Munala has been impressed with the preparations so far.
KCB Women's Volleyball team head coach Japheth Munala is impressed with the current form of his girls ahead of the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation(KVF) 2020-2021 season.
The bankers are set to confront the Kenya Defence Forces(KDF) and the Kenya Pipeline in the second leg of the season matches set to be staged at the Nyayo gymnasium next weekend. The men's contest has been split into two with Laikipia hosting one wing and Vihiga holding the other.
Munala, speaking after today's training session at the KCB Club attributed their first leg 3-1 loss to defending champions Kenya Prisons to a dip in form triggered by the unwanted break imposed on sporting activities as a precaution to the spread of coronavirus.
The tactician who doubles up as the national team, Malkia Strikers assistant coach however observed that the athleticism of the players had shot up thanks to the friendly matches played after the first leg.
KCB continued with their preparations for the forthcoming assignment with a test match against Nairobi Prisons today.
Munala revealed that a poor collection of loose balls and a blunt left attack cost them the first leg's bragging rights but noted improvement in the build-up matches played.
"We were not at our best in the first leg considering that our players had been out for almost a year. Their form and fitness levels had dropped to worrying lows but I have noted that they have improved over time. We have rectified the costly mistakes we made in the first leg and I am still on course to fine-tune them before the second leg matches," he said
KCB who broke the bank last year to lure seasoned Malkia Strikers players and respected coach Paul Bitok have been billed as champions in waiting. However, Munala says he is not under pressure to deliver the title despite having the luxury of summoning one of the refined and experienced players in the league matches.
"As a coach, when you subject yourself to pressure, you can not win any title. We will try our best to win the second leg and inch closer to the playoffs," he added
