The team will, however, be bolstered by the services of Veronica Adhiambo, who plays for Tarsus Belediyespor in Turkey.
Malkia Strikers head coach Japheth Munala has expressed his disappointment over the absence of star players Sharon Chepchumba and Leonida Kasaya.
The two veteran players are set to miss the Africa Games Zone Five Qualifiers, which serves off on January 22.
Only two teams for both men and women will secure tickets for the Accra, Ghana extravaganza slated for March 8-24.
Speaking during the unveiling of the team on Wednesday, Munala said that 25-year-old Chepchumba will miss out due to a knee injury, while Kasaya cited personal reasons. Chepchumba recently underwent knee surgery and is still recovering, ruling her out of the traveling squad.
The team will, however, be bolstered by the services of Veronica Adhiambo, who plays for Tarsus Belediyespor in Turkey.
“We expected Sharon to be here with us, but unfortunately, we received the bad news regarding her knee injury and that she has already undergone surgery as part of the healing process. It is, therefore, sad that we will be without Sharon for this campaign.
"We are also expecting Veronica Adhiambo; we are waiting to see if she will be released by her club in Turkey. Our Federation is working on that. For Kasaya, we don’t know what has happened to her; we have not heard from her and have been forced to proceed without her since time is not on our side,” the tactician said.
Munala will head the technical bench and will be assisted by the Kenya Prisons manager Josp Baraza. The headlines surround the return of Janet Wanja as the team trainer.
Kenya Volleyball Federation president Charles Nyaberi said that the team that reported to camp on Monday will enter a residential camp if funds are available.
General Service Unit (GSU) tactician Gideon Tarus coaches the men's team, and he will be assisted by Elisha Aliwa and Dennis Mokua. Former Malkia Strikers star Brackcides Khadambi will serve as the Team Manager for Wafalme.
