Kisumu Queens Hockey Club suffer defeat to experienced Sliders before bouncing back against Vikings in Super League
Kisumu Queens Hockey Club fell 2-0 to Sliders in the Kenya Hockey Union Women’s Super League game played at City Park on Saturday. This morning, the new kids on the block bounced back with a similar scoreline win over Vikings at the same venue.
"It was our first time playing on an AstroTurf and it affected our game," the Royals coach Brian Aduda told Mozzart Sport.
The encounter against the immediate former Premier League side Sliders, Aduda says was tough as they came up against an experienced side.
"That top flight experience gave them an edge, but the AstroTurf worked against us, despite creating some decent scoring chances," Aduda added.
Against Vikings, the Lakeside outfit went up early in the fourth minute through Elizabeth Oyoo, before Sandra Jepkorir doubled the lead ten minutes later.
"We took our chances early and made sure we grabbed the win. The margin could have been bigger, but the dilapidated part of City Park made us waste a lot of short corners," Aduda said.
The former Kenya international is optimistic moving forward having experienced playing away.
"We traveled on Friday night and played Sliders in the afternoon. We had a good rest before taking on the Vikings the following day. The ladies now have the experience of traveling and playing. It's a learning curve and each experience counts."
Queens began their life in the Super League with an emphatic 3-0 thumping of GHF Rift Pirates last weekend in Kisumu.
Queens will next face Nakuru Hockey Club on Sunday 7th May in Kisumu.
"It's another opportunity for us to play before our home fans and we're going back to ensure we prepare adequately," Aduda concluded.
