Both championships will act as a qualifying event for the National Swimming Championships next month
The Kenya Aquatics events calendar for 2025 will open on Saturday 25 January with two invitational championships in Kiambu and Meru counties.
Both championships, which will include age-group competitions, have been sanctioned by Kenya Aquatics, and will most importantly serve as a qualifying event for the Kenya National Swimming Championship scheduled for 15-16 February at the Kasarani Aquatic Arena.
The Kiambu event will be staged at Regis Academy - Runda, and will see more than six teams in participation.
Among the institutions already announced include: Otters Swim Club, Regis Academy, Crawford, Dashing Dolphins, Genesis Swim Club and Mpesa Foundation Academy.
The age-group categories will on the other hand include: seven and under, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, Under 11, 13-14, Over 12, 8 and under, and 14 and over.
And while it will not be the first time an event of that caliber will be taking place in Kiambu, events at Meru will be historic, as the county hosts its first ever aquatic championships.
In a bid to expand the sports landscape across the country, Kenya Aquatics has settled on Meru for the now sanctioned event, which is expected to draw a mixture of young talent and seasoned swimmers from the Mt. Kenya region and beyond.
There, a number of institutions including: St. Christopher's School Nanyuki, Nyeri Good Shepherd, Golden Dolphins, Nyeri Seals, Kerugoya Academy and Meru Aquatics will stage the gala, where results will go to the national database .
The championship will be graced by World Aquatics accredited referee Collins Marigiri, who also serves as Kenya Aquatics’ Secretary General.
The galas will take place over Saturday and Sunday in morning and afternoon sessions.
