The sigona resident collected points from Royal Nairobi, Vetlab and Muthaiga where he won in a playoff

26-year old Mohit Mediratta will be looking for another stellar performance when he lines up alongside top local golfers at the Karen Country club from February 20 to 24 for the ultimate Safari Tour leg as the search for Magical Kenya Open qualifying points comes to a conclusion.

Mediratta will be chasing a win, after clinching the just concluded Muthaiga leg, to up his chances of featuring in the Open scheduled for March 18 to 21 at Karen. Eight Kenyan golfers get automatic qualification slots with six amateurs set to play too.

“I am extremely delighted winning my first tournament. My putter was very cold in the final round at Muthaiga. I only made my first birdie in the playoff though the eagle at the 18th assured me and gave me the confidence that I was going to win the tournament. I am looking for a back-to-back win at Karen next week which will definitely put me into the Open next month,” Mediratta offered after winning at Muthaiga.

His win at Muthaiga was his first in his over three years of playing pro golf. He beat Mumias’ Dismas Indiza by one hole in a three-hole play-off. The two players had tied on three under par 281 at the end of regulation play with Mediratta having shot level par 71 on the final round while Indiza who had started the day ahead of Mediratta and Zambia’s Dayne Moore, posted one over par 72, to also wind up with 281.

The sigona resident golfer is now ranked 13th on the order of merit but 12th on the all-Kenyan list as Zimbabwean Robson Chinhoi has taken up the third slot on the overall log. Mediratta has 42.5 points from the 2018/19 and 20219/20 seasons of the Safari Tour that account for 30 percent of the final point tally. He also picked points at Royal Nairobi and Vetlab before picking maximum points at Muthaiga.
