The boxer lost two fights within a month on knockout basis and the commission now says he will not be allowed to fight until he gets clean bill of health report from the National hospital

The Tanzania Boxing Commission (TPBRC) has announced that professional boxer Karim Mandonga will not participate in any competitive boxing until he undergoes thorough medical tests after losing his last two bouts.

Mandonga lost to Kenya’s Daniel Wanyonyi on July 23, before being TKOed in his fight against Ugandan Moses Golola on July 29, 2023, in Mwanza, Tanzania.

The back-to-back losses raised concerns over his health status. Others were particularly concerned with his decision to take part in many fights within a short span, a run that could result in long-term health problems.

TPBRC has now stepped in and announced that the hyped boxer will not take part in any boxing competition for the next few weeks. He will also undergo medical examinations to determine if he is fit to continue competing.

Speaking to the Swahili Times, TPBRC Secretary George Lukindo said Mandonga is expected to be examined on August 15 at the Muhimbili National Hospital, and the results of the examination will determine if he will be allowed to play in his fight that will be held on August 27 this year in the islands of Zanzibar.

"Usually he is locked up first, he can exercise because he is healthy, not just because Mandonga is famous in Tanzania, but all boxers are treated the same way; he is locked up within a month and is undergoing treatment. After the doctor himself is satisfied, he can explain if he can continue the fight as normal or not," he said.

The 44-year-old has had two bouts in Kenya, both against Wanyonyi. He won the first before getting floored in the second.
