The KBF Division One action returned last weekend after a three-week break
Coach Moses ‘Chopper’ Shida is looking to guide his charges Moi Air Base (MAB) to the playoffs, with the military side looking to build on the momentum from last weekend’s victory over Snipers.
The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) division one side, on their maiden season in the second-tier league, have set a target of making it to the playoffs and at the very least, pull through to the last four as Shida believes he has the squad depth to achieve that.
Up against their fellow military men, Snipers, last weekend, MAB put up a spirited fight, winning 81-75 against the Ancet Wafula coached side with Shida crediting their 1-2-2 press for the victory.
“Last weekend’s win was very important for us. It gave us a third victory in six matches and that advances our targets. I have set the sight on a third-place finish this season. We hope the momentum we had against Snipers will carry us to more victories in coming matches,” the tactician offered.
His sentiments were echoed by his skipper Mohamed Salim who believes the team has what it takes to go all the way and qualify for the top tier league by reaching the division one playoff final.
“We have a few areas to work on especially on our patience on ball but we are looking forward to working for more wins and moving towards our set goal. We have our eyes set on the playoffs and even further to promotion.
We take it one game at a time, obviously, but our progression from the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) league has been impressive so I cannot rule out qualifying for the premier league at the first time of asking,” Salim said.
Meanwhile, Snipers hope to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Shoot for Life in a Sunday match.
