Lukenya Academy crowned champions of weekend PIPSSA Invitational Swimming Championships

Lukenya Academy were on Sunday crowned champions of the PIPSSA Invitational Swimming Championships after gaining an impressive points total of close to 6000 points in the event held at St. Bakhita Schools in Machakos.
The school, which was among eight others invited to the championship that drew participation from 20 teams featuring more than 500 swimmers from Machakos and the broader Nairobi Metropolitan region, dominated both the girls and boys categories, garnering 4,169.50 and 1518.50 points respectively.
Dashing Dolphins Swim Club emerged second in both categories with 1,299 and 1,257.50 points respectively, while third place went to Kilimani Junior Academy who had a total of 1387.50 points.
Among the other participating teams were renowned names such as: Lukenya Dolphins, Brookhurst, Kitengela International, Viraj International School, St. Bakhita, and Dawamu Academy.
"We are glad our efforts did not go to waste as my swimmers have been training hard to win this gala,” Lukenya Academy head coach Benson Okoth said after the event. “Our focus was also for the majority of our swimmers to qualify for Kampala."
The championship also acted as a crucial qualifier for the upcoming Kampala Invitational Swimming Championships set for 10 April, where 230 swimmers with impressive times secured their spots for the competition that will attract teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania.
Among the standout performances, all of them were lauded by the national swim coach and chairman of Machakos County Aquatics Association (MCAA) Eng. Peter Mwangangi, were Melissa Alala of Viraj International School who won the Girls 9-10 50 SC Meter Butterfly, as did Dashing Dolphins’ Nathan Kamau in the Boys 11-12 25 SC Meter Breaststroke.
Meanwhile, the anticipation builds as teams from across the country gear up for the upcoming PIPSSA Inter County Sports Tournament scheduled for this weekend at St. Christopher's School Nanyuki.
Sports enthusiasts can expect another thrilling showcase of talent and sportsmanship as teams compete for glory in various disciplines.
