Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) leader, Railways’ John Lejirma is going for the win to extend his stay at the helm as the series heads to the inaugural Kiambu Open.
The event set for this weekend at Kiambu Golf Club is the third event that was added to the championship calendar in this year’s season. The other two are the Golf Park Open that was held in 14 to15 May and Malindi Open dubbed "Vasco Da Gama Cup" held on 27 and 28 August.

“I played a courtesy round at the Kiambu course on Thursday and returned a four under par score which is a good precursor for the competition proper. The greens are in superb form. The only issue will be the fairways as they are dry but I will cop,” offered Lejirma.
The Strokeplay champion is looking to beat the field of 74 golfers drawn from Kiambu, VetLab, Golf Park, Eldoret, Windsor, Ruiru, Mombasa, Sigona, Royal Nairobi, Railways, Uganda, Kericho, Machakos, Kakamega, Muthaiga, Thika Greens, Limuru, Great Rift Valley Golf Clubs drawn to play.
Lejirma leads the rankings after the Manchester Salver, where he finished 11th, with 523.1 points, 48.7 ahead of second-placed Jay Sandhu. Uganda’s Michael Alunga, winner of the last leg, the Manchester Salver, is third on the log having accumulated 436.9 points.
The Railways resident golfer admits that going up against home golfer Michael Karanga will be no mean feat as the latter has an edge. “While Karanga is far behind in terms of KAGC points, there is still pressure facing off in his backyard as winning the leg is just as important as garnering the points.
I cannot say I have cemented the title as Sandhu and the other top contenders still has a chance. I am, however, looking to play well in the remaining legs,” Lejirma added.
