The team is set to leave on Friday next week
The Kenya Volleyball Federation is racing against time to secure funds and subsequently send the national women's team, Malkia Strikers to Brazil for the High Performance Training.
The two-month long training organised by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) as part of the empowerment program is set to get the Kenyan girls ready for the World Championships slated for September 23 to October 15 in Netherlands and Poland.
With the provisional squad already in camp, KVF is planning to have the team hit the road on Friday next week but according to the body's Deputy President Charles Nyaberi, the government is yet to avail funds.
Nyaberi, in a press conference held on Saturday revealed that the government was yet to respond on their request sent out in April leaving the federation in fear of watching the opportunity go down the drain.
Nyaberi said that they had sought help from the government to purchase air tickets, visa fees, allowances for the team among other needs.
FIVB have committed to take care of part of the internal costs that include accommodation, meals, local transport and salaries for the technical team with KVF bearing the rest of the financial burden and needs.
"We appeal to the government to help us offset the expenses for the training in Brazil. We are the first recipient in Africa to benefit from this project. We are looking money for tickets, visa fees, allowances and coronavirus tests. We are optimistic that the government that has stood by us all these years will come to our aid again, " he said.
