The Term Two national games are scheduled to take place from Monday, July 29 to Wednesday, August 7 in Kisii

The 2023 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) rugby 7s champions, Koyonzo Boys, have reclaimed their glory by winning the Western region rugby 7s championship.

Koyonzo clinched the title with a decisive 24-07 victory over Vihiga Boys at St Peter’s Grounds on Wednesday.

The eagerly awaited knockout matches faced disruption on Saturday when referees staged a go-slow, demanding outstanding payments.

This unexpected development halted proceedings just as the crucial knockout stage was about to begin. Up until this point, 48 matches had been completed in the pool stages.

Thrilling Finals

In a repeat of last year’s Western Region rugby 7s final, Koyonzo were determined to secure the crown. They dominated the first half with a 12-00 lead over Vihiga Boys.

Despite a strong effort from Vihiga in the second half, which saw them score a try and a conversion to bring the score to 12-07, Koyonzo's robust defence and aggressive attack led to two more tries and conversions.

The match ended with a final score of 24-07, securing Koyonzo Boys' championship.

Girls' Category

In the girls' category, Madira Girls faced Mbakalo Girls after a convincing 19-00 semifinal win over Kimobo.

Despite an appeal against them, Madira's performance stood. In the finals, Madira Girls emerged victorious with a hard-fought 15-05 win over their opponents, earning the Western region girls' crown.

Semifinals Recap

Koyonzo advanced to the Western Region semifinals along with Vihiga, Musing Boys, and St. Peters after impressive quarterfinal performances.

Musingu secured their semifinal spot with a 15-5 win over Kimobo, while St. Peters advanced after being awarded a walkover due to Chavakali's no-show.

Vihiga, 2023 East African and National finalists, earned their place with a tough 19-10 win over Kakamega School.

Koyonzo achieved an undisputed 22-00 victory over Kibabii to secure their semifinal spot.

The Term Two national games are scheduled to take place from Monday, July 29 to Wednesday, August 7 in Kisii. The regional champions, Koyonzo and Madira will now set their sights on national glory.
