KPA ready to reclaim KBF title

The dockers last won the title in 2018, which was a third consecutive trophy for Kiki's men.

Sammy Kiki and his Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men's basketball side are on a mission to add another league title to their name.

Standing between them and glory are nemesis Ulinzi Warriors who travel to Mombasa on 16 and 17 April for Game One and Two of the best-of-five final series.

The tactician believes the last three weeks the team has been in camp have been enough to prepare the side for the challenge ahead.

"Training has been good and we are ready for Warriors. We have been in camp readying for this final since last month and were ready to play from the time the federation gave the green light for the final. The change in dates has, however, given us more time to work on a few elements, especially on defence that needed polishing and the players are raring to go," offered Kiki.

While acknowledging that the soldiers had a better performance head-to-head in the regular league, Kiki was quick to note that his side has since worked on their main undoing in the two fixtures.

"In the regular season, we played Warriors in Mombasa just after return to action following the Covid-19 occasioned stoppage and lost. We had a better match away in Nairobi but lost concentration in the last minutes of the match and allowed them to win that match too.

We have reviewed the two matches, identified the problem areas and are ready to face them. We know they are strong side so we will not be complacent in our approach," added Kiki.

The dockers are looking to take full advantage of their home grounds, bag the first two matches and head to Nairobi for Game Three through to Five with a 2-0 advantage.

The side is hoping to have Nick Ogol back in action by next weekend so as to have a full squad. The forward sustained an injury in their semis matches against Equity Dumas and is yet to join the rest of the squad in camp.

"His availability will be highly welcome. However, in the unlikely event, he is unable to play, I have a big bench and I will not be handicapped in his position," Kiki opined.
