The dockers have played 13 matches, losing only once to ANU Wolfpacks in the first leg of the season.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men's basketball team's head coach Sammy Kiki is keen to guide the side back to the helm of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men's league with an unbeaten run in the second leg of the 2022/23 season.
The dockers begun their second leg of the season on a high, picking wins against Strathmore Blades (55-35) and Eldonets Platinum (72-36) at Makande Hall this weekend.
Coach Kiki admits that the team struggled to post good results in the first half of both matches, but experience came into play as they settled in the matches for wins, adding that he is hoping to build on that start to go top in the regular league.
"We had been out of action for close to two months and we did not gate a chance to train together until a day to the matches and that long layoff really affected our performance.
We were up against good teams and struggled at first but, eventually were able to pick some rhythm and play out for wins.
However, we need to train better for our next opponent. If we are to play an experienced side right now, we wouldn't be ready hence the need for better preparations.
The aim is not to drop any points in the second leg and we will work towards that as we look to reclaim top spot," Kiki offered after the weekend's matches.
The dockers are looking to defend the title they won last season in a closely contested playoff final against Ulinzi Warriors.
So far, Kiki's men have only lost one match, falling to varsity side Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks in the first leg and the tactician maintains that the loss should be the only dent in an otherwise perfect regular season if they play their cards right.
They will, however, be put of action in the next two weekends as the released fixture has excluded them despite the side being the only side in the top five that has played the least number of games.
