The dockers had played all their first leg matches last year before heading out to South Africa for the second round of BAL qualifiers.
Coach Sammy Kiki says his charges have some adjustments to make before the second leg of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) leagues resumes.
Kiki is hoping to guide Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men to a successful title defense for another shot at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and says the team's offense needs some work.
The team is set to resume training on Monday 9 January ahead of league resumption slated tentatively for mid-January.
"After our elimination in the BAL qualifiers we had a post-event meeting to try and decipher where we lost the battle for our first BAL appearance.
Top of the list was our dribbling, ball control and finishing so everyone has their work cut out as we will be looking to make those adjustments as we head back for the second leg of the league," Kiki offered.
The dockers lost one match in the first leg, a shock defeat to varsity side ANU Wolfpacks, and is looking for a perfect second leg to top the table at the conclusion of the regular season.
Kiki believes that the team's focus should not only be on defending the title but getting ready for the next opportunity to qualify for BAL.
"We have to perform at the same level we experienced while playing in the BAL qualifiers for subsequent attempts to be successful so we will use the league as our platform to perfect that," Kiki added.
The tactician will have his usual squad in actuon for the second leg with the players that had been called upon to strengthen the team for BAL already out.
Kiki, however, maintains that his squad has what it takes to retain the title.
