Koranga had a career game for the Trojans posting a career-high 19 rebounds and 18 points in the final match

National Women’s basketball team, Kenya Lionesses, forward Felmas Koranga was an integral part of the Troy women’s basketball team as the Trojans finished as the East Division Champions but the league runner-up in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) division one league.

Koranga, has had massive impact at the club she joined in April 2020 after two seasons at Tyler Junior College where she picked several accolades. In the final match played on Saturday night against Coastal Carolina, Trojans closed out the 2020-21 regular season with a 103-89 win to end the Sun Belt regular season with a 15-2 record which was the most wins in the Sun Belt Conference for the second-straight season.

However, due to the league deciding to use winning percentage to declare the champion, the Trojans finished as the East Division Champions but the league runner-up to Louisiana.

In the match against Carolina, Koranga had a career game for the Trojans. The junior posted a career-high in total rebounds,19, while tying a career-high in points scored with 18. Koranga shot 50 percent from the field on 9-of-18 shooting while adding three blocked shots, two steals and one assist.

“She is just constantly a threat to get every rebound that comes off the glass and now she is becoming a threat to score. She is one of our most intense players. At the end of games, she is the one making big plays for us when we need it, so we just ask her to take the intensity that she has at the end of games and move it up earlier in the game and she is really starting to do that,” said Troy head coach Chanda Rigby.

Rigby who acknowledged that his team’s rebounding was commendable further said that Koranga could not have played any better or rebounded any harder.

“We are East Division champions and that feels great. Our two loses, however, denied us the title but we play in the conference tournament this weekend and hopefully, we meet the champions who are in the West division and pick a win to prove we are that good,” said Koranga in an interview.

Troy head to Pensacola, Fla for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on March 5 to 8. As top seeds in the East Division, they earned a first-round bye and will play on March 6 in the Bay Center Arena against the winner of game one that has Texas State taking on Georgia Southern.
