Koranga's Trojans on the verge of Sun Belt Conference championship

Louisiana-Lafayette stand in the way of Kenyan basketballer Felmas Koranga lifting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title after finishing second in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) division one league. 

Koranga's Troy University defeated Appalachian State 66-63 on Sunday in the Pensacola Bay Center Arena to book a slot in Monday's Sun Belt Conference championship match for the third time since 2016. They play Lafayette on Monday, 8 March at 10pm. 

In the semis match, the Shimba Hills alumnus picked her 11th double, contributing ten points in the win. Senior Alexus Dye made 20 points while Tiyah Johnson and Jasmine Robinson each scored 10. Dye had a team-high 13 rebounds.

App State was led by Pre Stanley, who posted game-highs in both points scored (29) and rebounds (14).

Within the first five minutes of the contest against App State, Troy had a 13-0 lead and seemingly couldn’t miss from the field, connecting on their first four field goal attempts. The early advantage proved crucial for Troy as App State erased Troy’s 13-point lead and tied it at 38-38 by halftime.

Troy scored 24 third quarter points, against App State's 14. In the last quarter, App State restricted Troy to just four as they scored 11, seven in a row without a reply from Troy. However, Troy played solid defense late and was able to hold on for a three-point victory.
