Battle between man and machine returns after a year of inaction

Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) revs off on February 20 with Nakuru hosting the season-opening event at the Soysambu Conservancy.

Drivers will cover a distance of 175.80km, 141.38km of which will be covered in six competitive stages spread across Soysambu, Elementaita and Sleeping Warrior with the remaining distance being liaison distance.

Of the six competitive stages, the longest is a 32.10km stretch at Soysambu that will be run twice, as stage one and four, while the stage at Sleeping Warrior is second at 19.80km and will be run twice as stage three and six. Elementaita at 18.79km is the shortest.

Entries for the rally have already been opened and are set to close on February 16 with a seeded entry list expected to be released a day later. Scrutineering is scheduled for February 18, the same day those making late entries are expected to hand in their forms. Recce will be done of February 19 with the rally running the following day.

Most drivers will be racing for the first time after more than a year of inaction. The 2020 season was called off after two events due to Covid-19 pandemic. Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo had won the season opener, Guru Nanak Rally held at Stoni Athi, while reigning KNRC champion Baldev Chager carrying the day in the second leg held in Nyahururu.

-The 2021 Kenya National Rally Two Wheel Drive Class (2WD) Championship for Drivers and Co-Drivers.

-The 2021 Kenya National Rally Specially Prepared Vehicles Class (SPV) Championship for Drivers and Co-Drivers.
