Lakers return to action in two weeks with home games against Blazers and UON.

Kisumu Lakers Hockey Club hammered newbies Kenyatta University 6-1 in a Kenya Hockey Union Women’s Premier League match played at City Park, Nairobi on Sunday.

In another game played a day earlier, the Kisumu City - based side settled for a disappointing 1-1 draw against defending champions Strathmore University at the same venue.

"It was our game to take, but unfortunately, they managed to squeeze an equalizer," Lakers Team Manager John Paul Otieno told Mozzart Sport.

Debra Otieno scored for the Lakers.

On Sunday, having opened their season and shaken off the fatigue of traveling, the Lakers were more fluid and managing against KU, who were playing in the top flight for the first time.

It was a rude awakening for the coach Richard Wandera charges, going down as early as the 13th minute through Alice Aoko, who scored a hat-trick.

Ruth Netia doubled the lead in the 26th before Alice grabbed her brace in the 33rd minute.

With more confidence on the ball, Lakers pressed further with Kenya international Auralia Otieno putting her name on the scoresheet for the fourth goal in the 37th minute.

Alice's hattrick came in the 43rd before Debra stretched the lead beyond KU with the sixth and final goal four minutes later.

KU scored through Monica Kitui in the 57th minute.

"It was a great performance by the ladies. It gives them confidence. Overall, four points away is not bad, but we could have returned with maximum points," Otieno said.

The Lakers return to action in two weeks with home encounters against Blazers and UON.

"We have enough time to rest before we resume action, and we're going to take advantage of that to prepare adequately."
