Golfers are battling for points to qualify for this year's Magical Kenya Open set for March

In one of the most impressive performances of the ongoing Safari Tour leg at Sigona Golf Club, junior golfer Njoroge Kibugu shot eight under par 64 to shoot to the helm of the leaderboard ahead of the final.round on Wednesday 18 January.

The Muthaiga Golf Club golfer carded nine birdies, eight pars and a bogey to beat overnight leader Robson Chinhoi, who played two over (74).

Not only is Njoroge leading the tournament, but he is also the only amateur to make the cut for this event.

"The first two days I hit the ball well but I couldn't putt. My chipping was also a bit off. I fixed that going into the third round and everything came together today. I hit the ball well, my chipping was excellent and I sunk some putts," Kibugu said after the round admitting that it was a challenging Tour that has forced him to think a bit about how he plays.

He will be competing in the final round on Wednesday starting at 7:30am, against some of the top professional golfers in the region.

The final round of the Safari Tour promises to be an exciting and competitive finish, with Njoroge leading the way.
