Kenya's talented basketball player Madina Okot has been selected in the Team World women’s team that will face off against the USA U19 squad at the 2023 Nike Hoop Summit set for April 8 at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

The 18-year-old youngster, who was crowned the most promising girl in the 2022 Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) Awards held in January this year, was selected alongside 11 other girls from around the world with the top international athletes 19-and-younger facing off against the top American high school seniors.

The inaugural women’s World Select Team that will be coached by Carly Clark features 6-foot-4 center Reina Fukuo from Ohka Gakuen High School (Japan) and Dorja Iva Zaja, a 6-3 forward from Croatia playing for Tresnjevka.

Nyadiew Puoch is a 6-1 forward from Australia who currently plays for the WNBL Southside Flyers and Syla Swords is a 6-foot guard from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary (Canada).

Additional members of the roster include Diana Collins (Sweden), Marine Dursus (France), Toby Fournier (Canada), Delaney Gibb (Canada), Diora Ressaissi (Sweden), Shaneice Swain (Australia) and Letycia Vasconcelos (Brazil).

Okot goes into the Summit on the back of impressive performances where she helped the Kenya Ports of Authority (KPA) to victory in the 2022 Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) league before joining Zetech Sparks.

She also featured among the top 60 African players at the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) camp in Cairo, Egypt and she was also part of Team Kenya for last year’s Commonwealth Games.

The youngster was also a vital part of the Under-23 side that qualified for the 3×3 World Championships in Romania for the first time.

She was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Africa Qualifiers as well as the international camp in Egypt.

She was a joint top point hitter in Kenya’s resounding 21-8 opening victory against Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games. During the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup 2022, she was named the best rebounder.
