Kenyan swimmer Ridhwan Mohamed on Friday clinched silver at the Vienna International Swimming Meet, boosting his chances of making the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The 22-year-old, who broke three national records last year, clocked an impressive time of 4:05.65 in the men’s 400m freestyle, to eclipse his season best of 4:06.44 set earlier this year during the World Swimming Championships in Doha.

“I'm thrilled to have improved my time and to win a silver medal in a competitive and World Aquatics sanctioned meet,” Mohamed told Kenya Aquatics afterwards. “Every race is a step forward, and today's performance is a testament to the hard work we've been putting in.”

Mohamed’s performance not only earned him a spot on the podium, but also boosted his World Aquatic Points from 712 to 719.

This significant rise in points propels him to the forefront of the Olympic qualification rankings, showcasing his potential as a leading contender for the upcoming Olympic Games.

His Bandari Swimming Club coach Farkry Mansoor, alongside the Kenya Aquatics stakeholders, also praised Ridhwan's dedication and the strategic improvements of his training regimen.

Mohamed, at the UK swimming championships last year, set three national records; the 200m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 400m freestyle, to add to his catalog of impressive performances.
