Four Kenyans were selected to officiate in the Africa Hockey Road to Paris tournament in South Africa.
Lakers and Western Jaguars have been nominated to represent Kenya in the Africa Cup for Club Champions tournament (ACCC2023) in Blantyre, Malawi, from November 18th to 26th, 2023.
The two clubs apparently met the conditions for the invitation to the tournament as set out by the Local Organizing Committee to the national bodies.
The two teams participated in a similar tournament held in Nairobi in February, where the Lakers defied the odds to finish fourth in their first appearance in the tournament.
Kenya paraded six teams in the tournament, but none claimed top honours in their respective categories.
Kenya Police, Butali Warriors, and Jaguars featured in the men’s category, with the Lakers, Blazers, and Strathmore University Gladiators doing duty on the other end.
Butali were the only side that made it to the podium after finishing third in the men’s category behind Ghana’s Exchequers and Sharkia of Egypt, who won the title.
The Ghana Revenue Authority won the women’s title, with the Ghana Army and Delta Queens of Nigeria finishing second and third, respectively.
Both Butali and Gladiators had entered the tournament by virtue of being national champions.
Meanwhile, the Kenyan quartet of Peter Obalo, Carren Koloni,Yakub Shiraz, and Chairty Majimbo have been appointed to officiate in the Africa Hockey Road to Paris tournament set to be held in Pretoria, South Africa, between October 29 and November 5.
Both Obalo and Majimbo head to the tournament as umpires, while Koloni and Shiraz will be technical officials and umpire managers, respectively.
