
Kenya to mark World Aquatics Day celebrations in Kisumu

Kisumu is set to become the epicenter of aquatic sports in Kenya on Saturday as the city hosts the much anticipated World Aquatics Day Celebrations.
Dr. Maureen Owiti, President of Kenya Aquatics, and George Munene, Liaison Officer for Kenya Aquatics arrived in the lakeside city to spearhead the festivities.
Their arrival was marked by a warm reception from key members of the Kisumu County Aquatics Association’s Executive Committee led by Patrick Andayi, who have played a pivotal role in organizing the event.
In an interview, Dr. Owiti shared her excitement about the celebrations, stating: "World Aquatics Day is a significant event for us as it showcases the talent and potential within our communities. Our goal is to promote and develop aquatic sports across Kenya starting from grassroots levels."
The celebrations promise an action packed day with a variety of events planned to display the rich diversity of aquatic sports.
Attendees will witness thrilling competitions in swimming and water polo, breathtaking diving exhibitions, and the grace of artistic swimming.
Additionally, young participants will showcase their junior lifesaving skills and water safety techniques, emphasizing the importance of safety in aquatic environments.
The event is expected to draw a large crowd, with the leadership of Kisumu County Government led by Governor Prof. Anyang Nyongo set to grace the occasion.
Their presence underscores the county government's support and commitment to the development of sports in the region.
Meanwhile, Kenya Aquatics has expressed a strong commitment to working closely with Kisumu Aquatics stakeholders, and extending their efforts to other counties.
This collaboration aims to elevate the standards of swimming and other aquatic sports nationwide, fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity.
