The National Premier and Super League resume this weekend at Co-operative University this Weekend.
With both Premier and Super League teams vying for top spots, the stakes have never been higher.
One of the weekend's major storylines will be Mavens Tacticians, who are focused on climbing from their current position at third place to the top of the standings.
Known for their cohesive strategies and unbeaten streak, Mavens Tacticians are entering the matches with a determination to secure critical victories that could see them reach the league’s coveted number-one position.
They play Elite Chess Academy and Club on Sunday with victory ensuring they get to the top of the log.
Former champions KCB will also be in action on Sunday as they take on Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
The bankers have a star-studded line-up comprising with a number of national team players including Robert Macligeyo and Joyce Nyaruai. They also recently signed former under-12 girls champion Elizabeth Cassidy.
There will be four Premier League matches on Saturday. Nairobi Chess Club will take on NACHA Kings at 9a.m. At 2p.m, NACHA Kings will take on JKUAT with Black Knights tackling Elite Chess Academy in another afternoon fixture.
On Saturday, United States International University (USIU) take on Black Knights in one of the ten matches lined-up.
Reflecting on the significance of these upcoming games, League Secretary Anthony Kionga shared his optimism and high expectations for the weekend.
“All the teams are in top form and are determined to do well this weekend reflecting the spirit and talent present across the league. All the teams have the skills and momentum to achieve their goals, and it’s exciting to see such strong competitors continue their unbeaten stretches," the Secretary offered.
Kionga said the league will continue every weekend until December 4 when the penultimate matches will be played.
The winner of the league will walk-away with Ksh100,000.
