KOGL Chairman Peter Kanyago, said they are committed to ensuring transparency in their operations

The Kenya Golf Open limited has returned an excess of Kshs.365,000 that was left over from the Magical Kenya Ladies Open that was held at Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi to the Ministry of Sports.

According to KOGL Chairman Peter Kanyago, they are committed to ensuring transparency in their operations in accordance with the law.

Bwana Waziri, golf is a game played by gentlemen and we as the Kenya Golfing fraternity will ensure that we meet all the requirements of your ministry. We will ensure that we give our returns. For example, in the just concluded Magical Ladies Kenya Open, we have already provided our returns to your ministry," he said.

The Chairman also said that expenses had been reduced, and the money left over would go toward the Magical Kenya Open, a prized DP Tour event that would take place at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi from March 9 to 12.

And Waziri, we spent a bit less than your ministry had provided and therefore, we have returned to the ministry some Kshs.365,000. This just goes to show that we are prepared and committed to following the requirements laid out by your ministry,” he stated.

According to the chairman, the Magical Kenya Open and the Kenya Ladies Open are two of the most prominent sporting events ever held in the nation, and they were happy to be a part of the events.

"It is a celebration of our rich culture and tourism potential. It is a pleasure to host this prestigious tournament. We are confident that it will boost our tourism sector and showcase Kenya as a preferred golfing destination. We are honored to host this event and we are committed to providing a memorable experience for all those who will be involved,” he remarked.

Absa's Interim Director Yusuf Omari praised the Chairman for that valiant deed and pledged that Absa will support the event with Ksh70 million.

Absa and the KOGL are working together to sponsor the international competition for the second time. Also promising that the ministry will contribute significantly was CS Sports Ababu Namwamba.

This is to confirm that we will sponsor this year’s edition to the tune of about Ksh70 million. If I were to break it down, about Ksh50.7 million will go towards KOGL to help in the running of the tournament, and I am happy to hear what happened in Vipingo. Trust me, if there’s a balance, we will take it. We don’t mind,” said Omari.

Absa will contribute to the KOGL in part through sponsorship fees, allowing them to fulfill their event-related commitments and provide prize money to aid in the creation of special experiences for patrons and golf enthusiasts.

An estimated 156 top golfers from around the globe are anticipated to compete in the 2023 edition, including eight Kenyan professionals (pros) and six amateurs who will compete for a share of the $2 million prize pool.

Over the course of the four days of the competition, more than 15,000 spectators are anticipated in Muthaiga.
