The side won the division one final 3-0 against Stanbic Bank

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) basketball side Snipers have joined their big brothers Ulinzi Warriors in the top tier for the coming season.

The William Ochieng-coached Snipers won the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) division one men's league in style, sweeping Stanbic Bank in the best-of-five final.

Gaining promotion in such a manner has given the military side confidence that they have what it takes to handle their 'big brothers' when the Premier League tips off.

"This is the same energy we are bringing to the Premier League. We know there are adjustments we will have to make to match the level of the top teams but we are ready for that. We already have an idea of what it entails, as we train alongside Warriors," skipper Edwin Kinyua told Mozzart Sport after the team lifted their title.

The skipper who has been part of the team in their previous attempt to gain promotion attributes the young blood in the team for complimenting their experience for this achievement.

"The new players joined the team hungry for victory and they put in the work to help us clinch this title," Kinyua continued.

Asked about that military derby when they meet Warriors in the new season, Kinyua says they see this as an advantage as they have a learning opportunity. "They are our senior team and we learn a lot from them. The same continues as they show us the ropes of the premier league," he concluded.

Coach Ochieng, who is heading the team, was part of Warriors squad until last season when he fully took over Snipers after a period of coaching while still active with Warriors.
