Kenya Aquatics officials over the weekend renewed their support for integrating water polo into the national scene after being treated to an impressive display of the sport at the Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
The event was showcased by the talents of Y Lagoons, a team composed of former competitive swimmers who regularly train at the YMCA in Nairobi.

The team, led by captain Jerry Collins, a notable national swimmer, demonstrated the thrilling potential of water polo to diversify aquatic sports beyond traditional swimming, with many stakeholders expressing their eagerness to learn more about the game.
“Our federation is committed to developing water polo from the grassroots level to the national and eventually international stages,” Kenya Aquatics Secretary General Collins Marigiri said.
“We have plans in place to host an inaugural tournament in Eldoret this August.”
The tournament, organized in partnership with a Serbian water polo enthusiast, is expected to draw participation from local clubs and universities, as well as an interested team from Hungary.
Furthermore, Marigiri outlined the federation's strategy to strengthen the sport locally, which includes organizing several water polo coaching and officiating clinics.
These initiatives aim to enhance the skills and capabilities of local coaches and officials.
He also revealed ambitions to establish a national water polo team by the end of the year, marking a significant milestone in Kenya's aquatic sports scene.
Meanwhile, the federation has organized a two-day national swimming championship expected to attract over 42 teams from across the country at Mpesa Foundation Academy.
The dates will be communicated at a later date.
